Received a Letter of Demand?
Five practical steps to take now.
This guide is general information only and is not legal advice.
- Do not ignore it. A letter of demand usually gives a deadline (often 7 or 14 days) before court action.
- Check the details. Is the amount correct? Is the claim against you or your company?
- Gather your documents — agreements, receipts, statements, messages.
- Get advice early. There may be defences, or it may be possible to negotiate a settlement or instalment plan.
- If you receive court papers, note the date on them. Court deadlines are strict.
