How a civil claim usually works

  1. Assessment — we review your documents and explain your options, including whether settlement is worth exploring.
  2. Letter of demand — usually the first formal step.
  3. Court proceedings — if the matter is not resolved, a claim is filed in the appropriate court.
  4. Case management and trial — the court sets directions; many cases settle before trial.
  5. Judgment and enforcement — if judgment is obtained and not paid, enforcement steps may follow.

Every case depends on its own facts and evidence, and no outcome can be guaranteed.

What to bring

  • Any letters, notices or court papers you have received
  • Contracts, invoices, statements and correspondence
  • For accident claims: police report, medical reports and receipts, photos
